gone on the river
The Wisconsin River joins the Mississippi just downstream of Prairie du Chien. I know from my reading before the trip that this is a major meeting, but I can't remember why. What I do remember is looking out at the Wisconsin as I traveled back from Chicago with my friend Jesse and his mother earlier this year, and thinking: I will see where you meet the Mississippi. It's interesting and satisfying to have closed that particular little loop in time. I'm also interested to see tomorrow what effect, if any, it's had on the Miss as a whole, in terms of turbidity and nitrate.
