See that tuft of grass and whatnot in the leftmost little sapling? It's about three-four feet off the ground, which is at least a good six inches above the level of the river here. I think that clump of stuff was left by water, meaning that the level of the river must have been significantly higher at some point, not too long ago. And it feels really high right now!
