As I've floated downriver, I've seen a lot of natural scenes, of course. I've seen a lot of signs of human intervention: pontoons, houses, bridges, cars, small towns. But today was the first time I've seen any major industry, and it was a pretty full-on display: a coal plant, right on the river. Its giant coal pile just right there, in the open. It was surprisingly noisy, as well, clanking and whooshing.
