gone on the river
I've given a lot of thought, probably an inordinate amount, to what I will eat on this journey. I've brought a lot of food, of various kinds. It's probably too much, frankly. The two rubbermaid tubs are heavy, they're tall (meaning they act like little sails inside the canoe, making it do weird things in the wind), they're clunky to drag around.
But I've had GREAT food so far. None of those damned salt-laden, expensive camping pouches.
Tonight was especially exceptional. I've described it already, but here it is again: boiled potatoes, with salt, pepper, and olive oil. Vegan protein rectangle-things I got from an Asian market, seasoned with sage and smoked paprika. Homemade sauerkraut with dill and caraway that I insisted on bringing, damn the weight.
It's worth it to eat real food.
That's what I tell myself every time I have to lug those tubs around somewhere.
Oh! And a crowler of Summer IPA from Bemidji Brewing. Pretty f'in good.
