Day 2
Day 2
May 31, 2022

Measurement at Coffee Pot Landing, mile 1326.2. Turbidity 53.5.

It rained off and on most of the night. I had a hard time adjusting to the sleeping bag and mat setup, woke up a lot. Slept "in" until arouond 7, made myself get up. Sore in the back, shoulders, arms, nerve issues in the right hand are still there.

Got out of the campsite after oatmeal and tea, putting things away in the rain. Took measurement just down from the landing.

The river was moving quickly for awhile, until well before Stumpher's Rapids. I had the strong impression that it was still high from last night's storm and the lingering rain. Slowed down in the endless undulations in the marsh.

The rapids were much more like other "Class I" rapids I'm familiar with. In the afternoon, I hit another long, very slow patch of marsh.

I had to battle a tree that beavers had left across the stream, just above the campsite. Also a tree under the County Road 5 bridge.

My shoes were still quite wet this morning, so I wore sandals and went barefoot all day. My feet got quite cold.

It's been windy all day: gusty, but with a strong tendency from the northwest. It's helped me a lot, actually, pushed me along. The times when it was in my face, it was very difficult going indeed.

Dinner: black beans and rice, soaked all day and pressure cooked, with onion, pepper, chipotle pepper, cumin, garlic, salt, and fresh lime and homemade curtido.
